The Ibdaa Dheisheh Women’s Volleyball Team dominated women’s volleyball in Palestine from 2016 to 2023, maintaining its position at the top of national competitions and winning numerous Palestinian Championship and Palestine Cup titles. This remarkable record made the team the most decorated women’s volleyball club in Palestinian history. The team also represented Palestine in Arab regional tournaments and contributed to the development of many outstanding players, cementing its reputation as one of the most successful and distinguished women’s teams in the history of Palestinian volleyball.
The team brought together players from Dheisheh Refugee Camp as well as neighboring towns and villages. Since its establishment, it has become a leading example of a women’s sports team emerging from a refugee camp, combining athletic excellence with a strong social mission. Beyond its sporting achievements, the team provided a safe and empowering space for girls and young women, encouraging their participation in sports and strengthening their role within the community.
However, the difficult political circumstances—including repeated military incursions, wars, and prolonged closures that deeply affected life in the camp—had a significant impact on the team’s activities, ultimately leading to the official suspension of its participation in competitions by 2023.
Despite the team’s suspension, Ibdaa Center’s mission has continued. Believing in sport as a powerful tool for education, empowerment, and community development, the center established a youth sports academy for children in volleyball and basketball. Through this initiative, Ibdaa continues to nurture young talent, develop the skills of future generations, and preserve the legacy built by the women’s volleyball team—ensuring that its story lives on for generations to come.
