Palestinian Embroidery (Tatreez)

Palestinian embroidery, known as Tatreez, is an important part of Palestinian cultural heritage and collective memory. Each embroidered pattern carries a story, reflecting the identity, history, and traditions of the community where it originated. Different designs are often connected to specific Palestinian cities, villages, or regions, and each motif has its own name and meaning inspired by nature, daily life, and local traditions.

For generations, Palestinian women have used embroidery not only as a form of artistic expression but also as a way to preserve their stories, heritage, and connection to their homeland. The colours, patterns, and techniques of each piece represent memories, places, and experiences passed from mothers and grandmothers to younger generations. Today, “Tatreez” continues to be a symbol of Palestinian identity, creativity, and resilience, while providing women with opportunities for cultural preservation and economic empowerment.
