Women’s Basketball Team

The women’s basketball team of IBDA’A Sports Club in Dheisheh Camp represented a pioneering sporting and social experience. It was established as part of the IBDA’A Association’s vision of providing equal opportunities for children and youth to take part in sporting activities, and of strengthening girls’ role in the field of sport as a space for self-expression, building confidence, and developing capacities.

Since its launch, the team worked to develop the players’ skills through regular training and participation in local sporting activities and competitions, providing a supportive environment for girls to practice basketball within an organized framework that combined athletic development with education in the values of commitment, teamwork, and belonging.

The women’s basketball team represented an important model for the role of women’s sport in the local community, contributing to breaking the traditional image of girls’ participation in sport, and opening the way for many players to gain sporting experience, develop their skills, and take part in local events and tournaments representing the Ebda’ Association and its sports club.

The team was not merely a space for athletic competition, but a community program aimed at empowering girls and strengthening their presence in public life. Sporting participation helped build character, strengthen leadership qualities, and develop communication and teamwork skills. The club also formed a safe space that brought together players of different ages and backgrounds, and firmly established the concept of sport as a tool for social development.

Over the years of its activity, the women’s basketball team took part in a number of local tournaments and sporting events, achieving a notable presence in competitions. It also helped produce a group of players with distinguished sporting skills, who became part of the development of women’s basketball in Palestine.

A number of male and female coaches took turns training the team, playing an essential role in developing the players’ technical level, designing training programs, and building team spirit. They played a major role in preparing the players to compete and in strengthening their confidence in their sporting abilities.

Over its various stages, the team also nurtured a group of players who formed an important part of the club’s sporting memory, and who contributed to creating a distinguished experience for women’s basketball within the Ebda’ Association, becoming a model for young women who managed to combine sport with education and community participation.

Although the team’s activity later came to a halt, the Ebda’ women’s basketball team remained an important part of the Association’s history and sporting legacy, and a witness to Ebda’s commitment to empowering girls and youth, and to its belief that sport is not only a competition on the court, but a means of building character and strengthening community participation.
