The Eyes Project at the IBDA’A CENTER is one of the community health programs that came in response to a genuine need within Dheisheh Camp and the surrounding community, arising from the Association’s vision based on improving people’s quality of life and providing support to groups in need of essential health services.
The Eyes Program was established with the aim of contributing to addressing challenges related to eye health, by providing a comprehensive pathway that begins with examinations and early detection of vision problems, and extends to medical follow-up, referral for treatment, and facilitating access to specialized services in cooperation with hospitals and eye centers.
The project focused in particular on children and students, given the importance of eye health for the educational process and child development, as undetected vision problems can directly affect academic performance, self-confidence, and daily participation. In this context, during 2022 the project provided free medical glasses to 160 children from Dheisheh Camp aged between 8 and 16, with the aim of helping them improve their ability to learn and to carry out daily life.
The project also carried out numerous eye examination campaigns that benefited hundreds of people of different ages, and contributed to the early detection of vision impairment and eye diseases, in addition to following up on cases requiring treatment interventions or specialized surgeries, in cooperation with relevant medical institutions.
The Eyes Project was not merely a medical service, but a humanitarian initiative aimed at promoting health equity and reducing the gaps faced by camp residents in accessing specialized care. Through providing examinations, medical support, and health awareness, the project helped improve the lives of many beneficiaries, giving them greater opportunities to learn, work, and actively participate in society.
The Eyes Project represents an important part of the history of the IBDA’A CENTER and its community programs, and reflects the Association’s ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive services that combine cultural, social, and health development, placing human needs and dignity at the forefront of its priorities.
