The project aims to support a part of the approximately 2,5% of Palestinians who suffer from reduced vision. Studies have shown that vision problems reduce the ability to contain focus in both school and work situations, leading to headaches, vertigo and restlessness. For the 15.000 residents within the Dheisheh refugee camp, the resources to acquire proper eyewear are not always present.
The project's main goal is to provide a service for Dheisheh Refugee Camp where 8-16-year-old children of Dheisheh can have their vision tested in a permanent clinic space that is properly equipped to conduct professional and thorough tests and will be provided appropriate eyewear free of charge, and to educate the community through an awareness campaign.
Supplying the young children with appropriate eyewear and education enables the children to overcome the hindrance of impaired vision and improve in an academic, artistic, and social setting as well as improve the children's mood.
The economic instability in Dheisheh is a constant challenge for a lot of families in Dheisheh Refugee Camp, therefore it is a critical issue the families face when their children have reduced vision. The price of eyewear most of the families in Dheisheh cannot provide for their children. They also don’t have the information needed to know what to do with a child with reduced vision.
This has a negative impact on the child's ability to learn, opportunities and ability to develop its skills. It’s therefore in Ibdaa’s interest to provide aid for the community to improve the overall social standing, both academically and culturally in Dheisheh Refugee camp by supplying much-needed aid for reduced vision, and information
